[2]   Vincent A. Bogue was the Sangamon County entrepreneur who promoted navigation of the Sangamon River by the steamboat Talisman, which Lincoln and J. Rowan Herndon piloted to Bogue's mill in March, 1832. Lincoln and Alley, proprietor of the tavern at New Salem, were among his backers, and when Bogue went bankrupt they were levied upon.
