[2]   Democratic organ founded in 1835. In 1839 it merged with the Illinois State Register and People's Advocate of Vandalia. Following the seat of government to Springfield, it became the Illinois State Register.

[3]   Former storekeeper at New Salem whose stock Berry and Lincoln bought from William G. Greene in 1833.

[4]   James W. Keyes, Springfield tailor. The Journal misspells the name throughout this reply.

[5]   Weber married a daughter of General Adams on November 14, 1837.

[6]   A Springfield merchant, elected town trustee in 1838 and, later, alderman.
