Abstract

An extremely well-written report on the 1918 influenza pandemic in San Francisco from the perspective of 1941. Uses mortality rates as a basis for statistical plotting of the epidemic, and remarks on the community's response to the outbreak and lessons learned. "Another pandemic may sweep the world in the near future. The medical profession must be ready to combat it to the best of its ability. The periodic articles on the various phases of influenza help in conscious preparation of the general practitioners for this combat by keeping the subject of influenza fresh and reminding them of its importance."
