Of the Wind.

Wind is said to be an Exhalation hot and dry; engendered in the Bowels of the Earth; and being gotten out, is carried side-long upon the face of the Earth, and cannot mount upwards above the middle Region of the Air, which by reason of its cold doth beat it back; so as by such strife, and by meeting other Exhalations rising, its mo∣tion is forced to be rather round than right in its 〈◊〉〈◊〉; and this makes it a Whirl-puff, or

Whirl-wind, which oftentimes by its violence car∣rieth many things with it from place to place, &c.
