Glanvil was a learned Lawyer, that was chief Justice in Henry the seconds dayes, and writ a Book of the Common laws of England, which is the ancientest of any extant touching that subject. Stawnf. praerog. cap. prim. fol. 5. He was then called in Latine Ranulphus de Glanvilla.
