IV. Balsamum Momordicae, Balsam of the Balm-Apple.

Bate.] ℞ It is made of the Fruit thereof, being insolated for a long time in Oil. It is one of the best of things, against Wounds and Ulcers; a most admirable thing a∣gainst the Haemorrhoides or Piles, Ulcers of the Womb, Ruptures, &c.

Salmon.] § 1. I humbly conceive that by Momordica our Author intends nothing more nor less than the Balm-Apple, and in that Sence we have taken him.

§ 2. But most Herbalists take Momordica to be the Balsamitamas, which is clear∣ly another Plant, and bears no such Fruit as the Balsa∣mina, Viticella, or Balm-Apple-Plant does.

§ 3. This Oil is tempe∣rate in respect of the first qualities, vulnerary, and

cures Pains, chiefly of the Haemorrhoides; it is also good for wounded Nerves, Burnings, Ruptures, &c.
