[ A] THerfore holy brethren, partetakers of the heuenly callynge, consyder the em∣bassadour and hyghe prest of our profes∣sion Christ Iesus, which was faithful to him that made him, euen as was Moses in al his housse. For this man is so moch more worthy of glorye then Moses as he that buyldeth an howse is more worthy then the house selfe. For euery house is prepared of some mā. But he that ordeyned all thinges, is God. And [ B] Moses verely was faithfull in all his house, as a minister, to beare witnesse of tho thin∣ges which shulde be spoken afterwarde. But Christ, as a sonne, hathe rule ouer the house (whose house are we) so that we hold fast the confidence and the reioysynge of that hope, vnto the ende.
Wherfore as the holy ghost sayth: to daye yf ye shall heare his voyce, harden not youre hertes, after the rebellion in the daye of tem∣tation in the wyldernes, where your fathers temted me, proued me, and sawe my workes xl. yere longe. Wherfore I was greued with that generacion, and sayde. They streye euer [ C] in their hertes: they haue not knowen my wayes, so that I sware in my wrathe, that they shulde not enter into my rest. Take hede (brethren) that there be in none of you an e∣uyll herte in vnbelefe, that he shulbe departe frome the lyuinge God: but exhorte one an other dayly, whyle it is called to daye, least any of you wexe harde herted thorow the de∣ceytfulnesse of synne.
We are partetakers of Christe yf we kepe sure vnto the ende theφ first foundation, so longe as it is sayde: to daye yf ye heare his voyce, harden not your hertes, as when ye re∣belled. [ D] For some, when they hearde dyd re∣belle: howe be it not all that came out of E∣gypte vnder Moses. But with whome was he displeased .xl. yeres? Was he not displea∣sed with theym that synned, whose carkases were ouerthrowen in the wyldernesse? To whome sware he that they shoulde not enter into his rest: but vnto them that beleued not? And we se that they coulde not enter in, be∣cause of vnbelefe.
