¶ Booz taketh Ruth to wyfe, of whome he beget∣teth Obed.
THen wente Booz vnto the gate, and sat him downe there: and beholde, the kins∣man [ A] of whiche Booz spake came by. Vn¦to whome he sayd: come and syt downe here, and called him by his name. And he turned in and sate downe. Then he toke tenne men of the elders of the citye, and sayd / syt ye downe here. And they sat downe. Then he sayd vnto the kynsman: Noemi that is come agayn out of the countreye of Moab, wyll sell a parcell
of lande whiche was our brother Elimelecs. And I thought to doo the to wete, and bydde the bye it before the inhabytoures and elders of my people / yf thou be disposed to calenge it, for thou arte nexte of kynred: but yf thou wylt not purchase it, then tell me, that I may were it. For there is none to calenge it, saue thou, and I next the. And the other answered I wyll purchase it.
[ B] Then sayd Booz / what daye thou byest the felde of the hande of Noemi, thou muste take also Ruth the Moabite the wyfe of the deed, to stere vp the name of thy deed kynsman vpon his inherytaunce. Then sayd the kynsman / I can not purchase it for marrynge of my owne name: take thou my ryghte to the, for I am content to lese my ryght here. Now this was the maner of olde tyme in Israel concernynge purches and chaungynge, for to stablysshe all thynge: that a man muste plucke of his shoo and gyue it his neyghboure, and this was a wytnesse in Israel.
[ C] And the kynsman said to Booz / bye it thou: and so drewe of his shoo. Then sayd Booz vn¦to the elders, and vnto all the people, ye are wytnesses this daye, that I haue boughte all that was Elimelees, and all that was Chilt∣ons and Mahelons, of the hande of Noemi. And moreouer Ruth the Moabyte the wyfe of Mahelon, doo I take vnto me to wyfe, to stere vp the name of the deed vpon his inheri∣taunce, that his name be not put forth among his brethren, and frome the gate of his citye: ye are wytnesses this daye.
And all the people that were in the gate, & the elders sayd, we are wytnesses: the Lorde make ye woman that is come in to thyne house lyke Rachel & Lea, whiche twayne did buylde the house of Israel, that she maye doo vertu∣ously in Ephrathah, and be famous in Beth∣lehem, and that thyne house be lyke the house of Pharez, whome Thamar bare vnto Iuda, euen of the seed whiche the Lorde shall gyue the of this yonge woman. And so Booz toke Ruth, and she was his wyfe. And he lay with [ D] her, and the Lord gaue that she conceyued and bare a sonne. And the women sayd vnto Noe∣mi: blessed be the Lorde, whiche hath not left the without an heyre this daye, that shal haue a name in Israel, and that shall bryng thy lyfe agayne, and cherysshe thyne olde age. For thy doughter in law which loueth the, hath borne him that is better to the then seuen sonnes. And Noemi toke the chylde and layde it in her lappe, and became nourse vnto it. And her neyghboures gaue her a name, sayinge / there is a chylde borne to Noemi, & called it Obed: he is the father of Isai, the father of Dauid. This is the generacyon of Pharez, Pharez begat Hezron, Hezron be∣gat Ram, Ram begat Amina∣dab, Aminadab begat Na∣hason, Nahason begat Salmon, Salmon begat Booz, Booz be∣gat Obed, Obed begat Isai, Isai begat Dauid.
