A Gentleman reprehended a certain Lawyer for tarrying so long in the countrey from his wife, saying, That in his absence she might want due be∣nevolence. Why Sir, replied the Lawyer, I shall give it her in full measure, when I return; and put the case, any one owed you an hundred pounds,
whether had you rather have it all together, or shil∣ling by shilling? That is very true indeed, replied the other, one would rather have ones money all together; yet it would vex you if your wife in your ab∣sence should want a shilling.
