IN 18 Hen. 3. Simon de Echingam* 1.1 underwent the Shireevaltya 1.2 for the Countries of Sussex and Surrey: So likewiseb 1.3 in 19 & 20 Hen. 3. And, callingc 1.4 himself son of Simon; as also bro∣ther and heir of William, gaved 1.5 to the Monks of Robertsbrigg, a certain VVater-course, be∣twixt Saleham, and Ocham.
To this Simon succeeded another William* 1.6 (his son and heir, I presume) who helde 1.7 seven Knights Fees of the Honour of Hastings: and, in 31 Hen. 3. having Marriedf 1.8 Margaret, the eldest of the daughters and heirs of William de Monta∣cute, had Liveryg 1.9 of the moietie of the Mannor of C••sseberg, in Com. Somers. as her Purpartie of the Lands, which descended to her, by her Father's death. But, this was only for the pre∣sent, and to continue to him during pleasure, for his better support in the King's service. And, in 23 Edw.* 1.10 1. obtain'd a Charter† 1.11 for Free-war∣ren in all his Lordships and Lands, at Eching∣ham, Salehurst, Burgherst, Brigherst Mundefeld, Ticheherst, Settlescumbe, Strokenersche, Okeham, Oerefeld, Tod∣hurst, Borselle, Rundene, Horpole, Ody∣mere, Brede, Icklesham, Bedington, Pe∣kedene, Estdene, Friston, Cenington, Ex∣cetes, Stopham, Yapeton, Linche, Brom∣pee, Rakham; and in the Town of Batta••l, in Com. Suss.
After this, viz. in 34 Edw. 1. I meet with Robert de Echingham,* 1.12 who wash 1.13 in that Expedi∣tion then made into Scotland; and, in 5 E. 2. with another William de Echingham,* 1.14 then sum∣mon'd i 1.15 to Parliament amongst the Barons of this Realm; and so tillk 1.16 15 Edw. 2. inclusive. And, in 1 Edw. 3. with Robert de Echingham,* 1.17 summon'd l 1.18 to Parliament in that year: but diedm 1.19 in 2 E. 3. being then seisedn 1.20 of the Mannor of Eching∣ham, in Com. Suss. with its Members; viz. O∣cham, Mundefeld, and Odimer, which he held by the service of five Knight's Fees, and a third part; leaving Simon,o 1.21 his brother and heir, of full age: Of whom, nor any of his descen∣dants, there having not been any Summons to Parliament, I need not to say more.
