PSAL XLIIII.

WE have heard with our •…•…ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou di•…•…st in their dayes, in the times of old.

WE with our ears have heard, O God, our fathers have us told,

Page [unnumbered]

What work thou hast done in their dayes and in the times of old.

2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

2 How that thy hand drave heathen out and planted them thou hast, How thou the people didst afflict, and them thou out didst cast,

3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arme save them:

3 For they not in possession the land that now they have Did get by their own proper sword, nor did their arme them save:

But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou haddest a favour unto them.

But thy right hand and thine own arme and light of face also, And that because thou haddest thus a favour them unto.

4 Thou art my King, O God: command de∣liverances▪ for Iacob.

5 Through thee will we push down our ene∣mies:

Page [unnumbered]

4 Thou art my king, for Jacob, Lord, deliv'rances command: 5 We will through thee push down all those that'gainst us enemies stand.

Through thy Name will we tread them un∣der that rise up against us.

6. For I will not trust in my •…•…ow: neither shall my sword save me.

We'le through thy Name tread under them that'gainst us risen have. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword me save.

7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 In God we •…•…oast all the day long: and praise thy Name for ever. Selah.

7 But from our foes thou hast us sav'd, and haters put to shame: 8 All the day long in God we boast, and ever praise thy Name. Selah.

9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame: and goest not forth with our armies.

9 But thou hast cast us off, and hast us put to shame also, And when our armies do go forth, thou dost not with them go▪

10 Thou makest us to turn back from▪ the •…•…nemie: and they which hate us, spoil for themselves.

10 From him that is the enemy thou makst us to turne back, And they likewise that do us hate, spoile for themselves do take.

11 Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat: and hast scattered us among the heathen.

11 Thou hast us given like to sheep for meat appointed thus, Among those that the heathen are thou hast now scattred us.

12 Thou •…•…ellest thy people for nought, and doest not increase thy wealth by their price.

12 The people that to thee belongs thou dost them sell for nought, And thou dost not increase thy wealth, by what their price hath brought▪

13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neigh∣bours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

13 Unto our neighbours a reproach a scorn thou se•…•…st us out And a derision unto them that are us round about.

Page [unnumbered]

14 Thou makest us a by-word among the heathen: a shaking of the head among the people.

14 Thou among those that heathen are a by-word us dost make, They that the people are among at us the head do shake,

15 My confusion is continuallie before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me.

15 Before me my confusion it is continually, The shame also of my face, it hath me cov'red utterly.

16 For the voice of him that reproacheth, and blasphemeth: by reason of the enemie and avenger.

16 Ev'n for his voice that doth reproach and doth blaspheme also: By reason of the man that is th'avenger and the foe▪

17 All this is come upon us: ye•…•… have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falslie in thy covenant.

17 All this is on us come, we yet have not forgotten thee; Yea, neither in thy covenant thus falsly dealt have we.

Page [unnumbered]

18 Our heart is not turned back: neitheir have our steps declined from thy way.

18 Our heart in all this time once back not turned is away, •…•… Nor have at all those steps of ours declined from thy way.

19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shad∣dow of death.

19 Though in the place where dragons are thou hast us broken sore, And also with the shaddow hast of death us cov'red o're.

20 If we have forgotten the Name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

20 If we Gods Name forgot, or to a strange God stretcht our hands, 21 Shall God not search this out? for he hearts secrets understands.

22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaugh∣ter.

23 Awake, why sle•…•…pest thou, O Lord •…•… arise, •…•…ast us not off▪ for even.

Page [unnumbered]

22 Yea, for thee we all day are kill'd, counted as sheep for slaughter: 23 Awake, why sleepst thou, Lord, arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face: and forgettest our affliction, and our oppression?

24 Wherefore thus hidest thou thy face and our affliction Why is it that thou dost forget, and our oppression?

25 For our soul is bowed to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies sake.

25 For down to dust our soul is bow'd, to earth our belly cleaves, 26 Redeem us for thy mercies sake, and for our help arise.
