Whether the Iewes had in this their question reference to
that place of Deuteronomie, or no, it is vncertaine, neither can
anie proofe be made of it but coniecturall. The like I say to your
other place, cap. 7. 40. and yet we do not doubt of their blindnes
and ignorance in not vnderstanding the Scriptures, which ap∣peareth
manifestly in their reply to Iohn, after he had told them,
I am the voice of one crying, &c.
