¶ He writeth playnly / & sayth howe that anoneAfter the daye of the natiuiteWhan eyght dayes passed were and goneThe chylde was brought / with all humiliteTo the Temple / lowly for to beAs the lawe of the Iewes hath deuisedThe eyght daye to be circumcised.
¶ And he therto / mekely dyd obeyeAnd with a knyfe / made full sharpe of stoneHis mother lokynge / with a pyteous eyeThe chylde was corue / therwithall anoneThat all aboute / the reed blode gan goneWithout abode / as saythe BonauentureAnd for the payne / he dyd endure.
¶ And for sharpenes of the sodayne smerteThe chylde gan wepe / that pyte was to hereWherfore his mother / of very tender herteOut braste on teres / & might her selfe nat stereThat all bydew••d / where her eyen clereWhan she sawe hym / that she loued soSo yonge / so fayre / to wepe for wo.
