Another cause he wryteth eke exp••••sseThat his forsakyng myght to hir nameBe dishonour and cause in sothfastnesseOf vntrewe tunges for to speke hir shameAnd though in hir ther were no spotte of blameSuspecion to voyde on euer eyther sydeThe aungel bad that Ioseph shold abyde
The thyrd cause & also most treweWas that he with more diligenceShold hir kepe whan he the soth kneweThat she was clene without al offenceAnd wyst playnly that by magnyficenceOf the holy ghoost his erreur to enchaceConceyued hath this mayde ful of grace
And whan Ioseph abrayed out of his slepeAnd in his herte by reuolucionGan to caste and to take kepeAgeynst the morowe of his auysionHe caught comforte and consolacionOf al that euer he was afore dispayridAnd to marie agayn he repayrid
And thankyd god with al̄ his hole herteThat he to hym hath so graciouslyIn recomforte of his Inward smerteHis grete myght declarid opynlyeAnd of Marie ful benygnelyHe axyth mercy of humble affeccionThat euer to hir he had suspecion
And of his errour & of his trespaceThis hore graye with al humyliteWith wepyng eyen gan to axe graceAnd she anone of womanly pyteeHis heuynes whan she dyd seeComfortid hym in al that euer she myghtAnd he anone in al theyr sight
