A Fomentation for oedema.

REc. Nucum cupressi, granorum sumach,* 1.1 balaustij, ana.℥.j. saluiae, origani, cala∣menti, hyssopi, melissae, ana.m.j. absynthij, plantag. caudae equinae, tapsi barbati, cen∣tinodij, ana. m.ss. aluminis, tartari & salis communis, ana.ʒ.j. Boyle them in lixiuio communi, and so vse it with spunges.

A Fomentation for suffusion of the eyes.

Rec. Foenugraeci loti ℥.ij. florum cha∣maemeli p.ss. sem. rutae ʒ.iij.* 1.2 Boyle them in sufficient water and vse it.

A Fomentation against the enlarging of the apple of the eye.

Rec. Rosarum, myrtillorum,* 1.3 ana. m.j. meliloti, anthos, ana.m.ss. nucum cupressi, nu.ij. vini nigri spissi lib.j.ss. aquae ros. aquae myrtillorum, ana.℥.iij. Bruse what is to be brused, and boyle them to the halfe of the wine and waters. Use it with a spunge.

A fomentation to be vsed with a spunge when Bubo lurketh in the flesh.

Specierum cordialium temperata∣rum ℥.ss. mosci, ambrae, ana. gra.xx. cam∣phorae gra.j sandalorum omnium, ana.ʒ.ss. ligni aloes ℈.j. laudani ʒ.ij. vini maluatici, aquae rosarum, aquae florum myrti, aquae florum arantiorum, ana. q.s. aceti parum. Bruse the aforesayd things, and mixe them with the waters, wherein you shall dippe a spunge and applie it.

A fomentation for the swelling in the bellie, or tumor in the flanke called Bubo venereus.

Foliorum absynthij, maioranae, eu∣patorij veri, origani, pulegij, calaminthae, rutae, ana.m.ss. fol. ebuli, sambuci & cauliū rubr. ana.m.j. fol. querci, lentisci, rubi, & cu∣pressi, ana.m.ss. thymelaeae, soldanellae, ana. m.j. florum chamaemeli & meliloti, ana.p.j. sem. anisi, anethi, maratri, cumini conquas∣satorum, ana.℥.j. nucum cupressi, gallarum omnium contritarum, ana. paria iiij. alumi∣nis lib.ss. salis communis tantundem. Boile all in lée made of oke ashes and the stalkes of colewortes, then bathe the bellie with a spunge dipped therein.

A fomentation to be vsed in the cure of a rupture.

Rec. Vini nigri stiptici,* 1.6 lib.iiij. rosarum, balaustiorum, foliorum myrtillorum & granorum eius, sumach, fol. plantag. hype∣rici, matri siluae, ana.m.j. radicum, symphi∣ti vtriusque & foliorum eusdem, ana.m.ss. radicum althaeae ℥.ij. nucum cupressi nu.iij. hypocisthid.℥.ss. aluminis rochae ℥.ij. aceti rosarum ℥.ij.ss. lycij ℥.iij. myrrhae, thuris, ana.ʒ.v. glutinis piscium ℥.j. Boyle all toge∣ther in the aforesayd wine till halfe bee wa∣sted, then straine it, and with a spunge ap∣plie it.

A fomentation for the windie rupture.

Rec. Cumini,* 1.7 baccarum lauri, seselios, rutae, ana.℥.j. Boile them in sufficient gentle binding wine and lee, wherewith you shall bathe the place affected.

A fomentation to dissolue winde in th•• windie rupture.

Rec. Radicum bistortae, radic. symphiti vtriusque, ana.℥.j.ss. hyperici, polygoni, fo∣liorum rubi, ana.m.j. sem. cumini, anisi, ana ℥.j. nasturtij torrefacti ℥.ss. florum staecha∣dos,

anthos, & centaurij, ana.p.ij. Boyle them in sufficient raine water and wine, and vse it with spunges.

A Fomentation for the cold apostume called vndimia in the armes and legges.

Rec. Chamaemeli, meliloti, foliorum myrthi, ana.m.ij. absynthij. squinanti, stae∣chados, rosarum, matricariae, ana.m.j. cori∣andri, maratri, ana.m.j. mellis lib.ss. salis, a∣luminis rochae, ana.℥.ij.ss. Boyle them in water to the consumption of the third part and vse it.

A fomentation for a watrie rupture.

Rec. Lixiuij barbitonsoris, lib.iiij. in quo bulliant seminis cumini ℥.ij. semen petro∣selini & apij, ana.℥.ss. salis com. lib.j. And make a Foment.

A fomentation for the hemrhoydes.

Rec. Maluae, bismaluae, brancae vrsi∣nae, ana.m.ij. chamaemeli, staechados arabici & citrini, ana.m.j. Mixe them together and boyle them in water sufficient, and with a spunge foment the place affected.

A fomentation to dissolue, scatter, and vent forth contused bloud, making a bunch or knobbe in the flesh, the skinne being whole.

Rec. Vini nigri lib.iij. lixiuij barbiton∣soris* 1.8 lib.j.ss. nucum cupressi aliquantulum trituratarum nu.x. myrtillorum, rosarum, absynthij, ana.m.ss. aluminis rochae ℥.ss. co∣riandrorum, cymini, calami aromatici, ana.ʒ.ij. Boyle them all together to the wasting of a third part. A spunge wet herein warme must bee bound to the place, and daylie re∣newed. It resolueth (saith the author) mer∣ueilouslie.

Another, which being applied at first, within two dressings (at furthest) dispatcheth the matter.

Rec. Albumen oui vehementer agita∣tatum,* 1.9 adde hereunto olei myrtini & pulu. myrtillorum, ana.℥.j. Stirre them well to∣gether, & with a linnen stuph first wet in vi∣neger and water equall portions, wrung out againe, applie this mixture to the place.

A fomentation for wounds and vlcers, which doth comfort and heale.

Rec. Seri lactis lib.iiij. vini sanguinei lib. iiij. vini maluatici, lib.j. rosarū rubrar.℥.iiij.

florum anthos, chamaemeli, betonicae, hy∣perici, meliloti, saluiae, valerianae, ana.p.iij. mellis rosarum ℥.iiij. rad. symphiti maioris ℥.ss. aloes epaticae ʒ.iiij. vermium terrestr.℥.j. aluminis ʒ.ij.ss. iridis ʒ.ij. cinamomi ʒ.iij thuris ℥.ij. Powder what is to be powdered and boyle them to the consumption of one pound. Then distill them, and with that li∣quor bath the wound or vlcer.

A fomentation against vomiting in the cure of wounds and vlcers or bruses.

Rec. Absynthij, musci odorati, rosarum rubrarum, ana.m.ss. cariophyllorum, ma∣sticis, macis, ana.ʒ.ij. cinamomi, nucis mosc. ciperi, ana.ʒ.j. Boyle them in red wine, and being warme moyst a spunge therein, and bathe the region of the ventricle therewith morning and euening.

A fomentation against vomiting after the healing of old vlcers.

Rec. Absynthij, menthae, rosarum rubr. ana.℥.j. galangae, cinamomi, ana.ʒ.iij calami odorati ʒ.j. masticis ʒ.iiij. squinanti ʒ.j.℈.j. florum chamaemeli ʒ.vj. florum anthos ʒ.iij. zedoariae, ℈.ij. mosci, ℈.j. First bruse the herbes, and then the rest, and put them in a

cloath, and boile them in ii. pound of malm∣sie, and rose-water three ounces, with the pulpe of one quince, till halfe be wasted, and with a spunge foment the region of your stomack indifferently warme; after that ap∣plie the herbes which were sodden, in man∣ner of a cushion, and when it beginneth to be cold, renew it warme, especially in the mor∣ning and before meales.

A fomentation for virulent, corrosiue and rebellious vlcers.

Aquae plantag. aquae rosarum,* 1.10 ana.℥.iij. balaustiorum, myrtillorum, ana. parū, myrabolanorum citrinorum ʒ.ij. aluminis rochae, ʒ.ij.ss. terrae sigillatae, ʒ.iij. santalo∣rum omnium, ana.ʒ.j. aquae endiuiae, ℥.ij. mellis ros.℥j. Boyle them to the consump∣tion of the third part. S••raine it, and vse it.

A fomentation to drie an vlcer, and to bring it to cicatrization.

Foliorum plantag. m.ij.* 1.11 absynthij m.ss. foliorum oliuae, lentisci, summitatum rubi, ana. m.j. foliorum betonicae m.ss. flo∣rum chamaemeli, meliloti, anthos, hyperi∣ci, staechados, rosarum rubrarum, foliorum ac granorum myrti, ana. m.j. Make your decoction in water sufficient, and in the ende

adde thereto vini rubri astringentis lib.iiij. and vse it.

A fomentation for an vlcer in the yard.

A fomentation to dissolue, mollifie, and driue away winde.

* 1.13Rec. Maluarum cum radic. m.j. florum chamaemeli, meliloti, ana.p.j. sem. lini ℥.j. anisorum ℥.ss. ficus nu. xl. Boyle them in water, till the third part be wasted, and fill a bladder with the decoction, and applie it to the side affected once or twice.

A fomentation for paine in the huckle bone.

* 1.14Rec. Radic. & foliorum ebuli, althaeae, ana.m.j. rutae, saluiae, sambuci, pulegij, ana. m.ss. chamaemeli, & meliloti, ana.p.j.ss. foe∣nugraeci p.j.ss. Boyle them in three parts

of Oyle, and one of Wine, and with a spunge moystened therein foment the place affected.

A fomentation for the gowte in the hands.

Rec. & faclixiuium ex cineribus quer∣cus,* 1.15 ficus, sarmentorum, cort•• fabarum, in quo concoques, radicum ebuli, ℥.ij.ss. cau∣lium rubrorum m.iij. lupinorum, foenu∣graeci, ana.p.iij. florum sambuci & staecha∣dos, ana.p.ij. aluminis, sulphuris, ana.℥.ij. sa∣lis ℥.iiij. aceti ℥.v. And with this decoction foment the hands.

An effectuall fomentation for cold tumors.

Lixiuij ex cineribus Guiaci lib.* 1.16 viij. florum chamaemeli, m.j. florum meli∣loti & hyperici, ana. m.ss. fol. & rad. althaeae ana.m.j. rosarum rub.m.ss. sem. foenugraeci ʒ.iij. farinae lupinorum ʒ.ij. myrrhae ℥.j.ss. sulphuris viui ℥.j. An excellent fomentation for the beginning and augmentation of an inflamation.

* 1.18Rec. Vrinae pueri masculi decimum an∣num non attingentis lib.j. albuminum ouo∣rum num.iij. aceti albi lib.ss. aquae ros.℥.ij. Mixe them, and warme, with clothes or flaxe, applie it.

A fomentation for an Ache.

* 1.19Rec. Apij, leuistici, solatri, ana.m.j. or ij. seui ouini, q.s. coquantur ex foecibus vini albi, vel aceti albi, vel ceruisiae bonae, Lappe them after in a cloath, and so foment and binde them to the part.

A fomentation to remoue the extreame itch that happeneth in the purse of the Testicles.

ana partes aequales. florum rosarum m.j. Heate them together, and let them coole a∣gaine, wet clothes therein, and applie them colde, renewing them still as they drie for xxiiii. houres.

A fomentation to mollifie the car••uncle.

Rec. Fol. & rad. maluarum,* 1.21 fol. & rad. al∣thaeae, saponariae, parietariae, ana.m.j. radi∣cem lilij albi, caput veruecis cum pelle & lana, ficuum pinguium nu. xij. Boyle all these a good space, and let the patient sit ouer it and receiue the fume thereof, or with a spunge let it bee warme applied for seauen or eight daies.
