VIDETE vocacionem vestram. This wordes, sayse Saynte Paule in his pistyƚƚ, and thay are thus mekiƚƚ to saye one ynglysche, `Seese ȝowre callynge.' This worde falles tiƚƚ vs folke of religioun̛: and þat sais he, tiƚƚ excite vs tiƚƚ perfeccyone. And ther-fore, what houre þat I thynke of my-selfe, one nyghte or on day, On a syde hafe I gret Ioye, and on anoþer syde gret sorowe : — Ioy, for þe haly religion̛; sorowe and confusyon̛ for my febiƚƚ conuersasione. And þat es na wondire, for I hafe gret encheson̛. Als þe wyese man saise in his sermon̛, he sais, `to com to Religion̛ es souerayne perfeccyone; and there-in noghte perfitly to lyffe, es souerayne dampnacyone.'
