Elemosina facta de rapinis et iniuste acquisitis non valet.

Petrus Damianus tellis how som tyme þer was a bisshopp̛, and in a visyon̛ he saw a pope at hight Benett, att wold̛ new be dede, & hym̛ þoght he saw hym̛ bodelie syttand̛ on̛ a blak hors. And þis bisshopp̛ said̛; "Allas! erte þou nott pope Benett, at is newlie dead̛?" & he said̛; "Yis, I am̛ þat same vnhappy man̛; and here," he sayd̛, "I am grevuslye turment, bod I despayr nott of þe mercie of God̛, & I may gett any helpe. And þerfor̛ I pray þe go vnto my successur, & bid̛ hym̛ do almos for me in suche a place, for þat almos at is giffen̛ for me hedur-toward̛ profettis me noght, for it was aƚƚ of robbery & of wrong-getten̛ gudis."
