[verse 1] THE bigynnynge of the gospel [holi gospel S.] of Jhesu Crist, the [Om. X.] sone of God. [verse 2] As it is writun in Ysaie, the prophete, Lo! I sende myn angel bifore thi face, that schal make thi weye redy bifore thee. [verse 3] The voice of oon cryinge in desert, Make ȝe redy the weye of the Lord, make ȝe his pathis riȝtful.

[verse 4] And the while he sowith, `an other [summe UV.] seed felde aboute [bisidis UV.] the wey, and briddis of heuene, `or of the eire [Om. AOPTUVX.] , camen, and eeten it. seien, Fyue, and two fyschis. [verse 40] And thei saten down [to mete UV.] by parties, by hundridis, and fyf|ties. AX.] me, and han not what thei [verse 3] schulen ete; and if I leeue [schal delyuere UV.] hem fastinge in to her [Om. Y pr. m.] hous [housis MY.] , thei schulen faile in the weye; forsothe summe of hem camen fro fer. [verse 4] And disciplis [the disciples MPXY. hise disciplis UV.] answeriden [answeringe Y.] to him, Wherof `a man schal [schal a man PUVXY.] mowe fille hem [these men UV.] with looues here in wildirnesse [desert UV.] ?
