Of Mari milde now will I mene,

Of hir haly assumpsioune,
How scho was tane to heuin on hight
And lendes euer in lastand light.
When Jhesus Crist had sufferd payne,
Was resin and went to heuin ogayne:

For missing of hir mightful schilde. [T childe.]
Scho and saint John, Cristes cosin dere,
Dwelled in þe temple bath in-fere,
With oþer also of hir kin,

& many seke men dwellid þarin.
Scho serued bath to seke and hale
And was ful boun to bete þaire bale,
Wilfuli to wasche and wring [T wilfully.]
And in þaire beddes þam for to bring.

And euer scho thinkes euyn and morn
On Jhesus þat was of hir born;
And he sent oft angels hir till
To comfort hir, als was his will.

And zemid hir als his moder dere —
For of hir had he tane kepeing,
When Crist opon þe rode gan hing.

And with hir was, ware so scho went.

Þat Mari of þis werld suld wende:

Þat till hir said with milde steuyn:
"Mari mild, now mak gude chere!
