This website and digital collection are under construction and will be revised and expanded as additional digitized content becomes available. The site will ultimately include the entirety of the Weld-Grimké Family Papers of the William L. Clements Library. This site currently includes Angelina Emily Grimké's diaries only.

The Clements Library is pleased to present Angelina Emily Grimké's digitized diaries alongside transcriptions and annotations provided by scholar Anna Speicher, PhD. To assist readers, Anna Speicher has also provided a glossary of names and name abbreviations present in the Grimké diaries. The Library is grateful for this significant contribution to scholarship on the Grimké sisters.

The Weld-Grimké family papers consist of approximately 3,200 items dating largely between 1825 and 1899. These letters, diaries, notebooks, documents, religious and social reform writings, biographical materials, printed items, photographs, photograph albums, realia, and ephemeral items pertain to the lives and activities of members of the Grimké and Weld families. The focus of the collection is on abolitionists, women's rights advocates, and social reformers Sarah Moore Grimké, Angelina Emily Grimké Weld, and Theodore Dwight Weld--as well as Angelina and Theodore Weld's children Charles Stuart Faucheraud Weld, Theodore Grimké Weld, and Sarah Grimké Weld Hamilton.

The Clements Library wishes to thank the University of Michigan Library Information Technology, Digital Content and Collections unit for their vital work in making this collection digitally available.
