- Maggie Waltz (top row center) was a Finnish immigrant who became known for both her business and social accomplishments. Waltz pursued a variety of professions that were not typical for women at the time. She was often referred to as an independent businesswoman. Waltz also established the Calumet Finnish Women's Society which eventually became a national organization, and advocated for immigration throughout her lifetime.
