796 SPECIAL JUNE lMEETING, 1917 The President appointed Regent Hubbard to accept officially the presentation to the University of the De\olson Wood Memorial tablet, on June 26. A communication was received from Professor R. M. Wenley suggesting that the chime clock, which must be dismantled in the rebuilding of the Library, should be re-erected in the tower of the Mlichigan Union building. On motion of Regent Bulkley, the Board expressed itself as heartily in favor of this plan. The President presented the resignation of Assistant Professor Frederick S. Breed, in order that he might accept a position in the School of Education of the University of Chicago, and on motion of Regent Bulkley this resignation was accepted with regret. The President presented the resignation of Associate Professor Lee H. Cone in order that he might go into the work of commercial development of the organic chemical industries of this country. On niotion of Regent HIubbard, Professor Cone's resignation was accepted with regret. On motion of Regent I'ubbard, lMr. Norbert A. Lange was appointed Instructor in Organic Chemistry for the -ear 1917-1918, at the salary of $iooo, Mlr. Lange's appointment being necessitated by the resignation of Professor Cone. The President filed the following commlunication from Professor Whitney, and on motion of Regent I-ubbard. the gift of $ioo was accepted under the conditions stated, witl! the thanks of the Regents:PR ISI)DN-'I H. B. HtTCHINS, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. MY DT11AR SIR:Through an alumnus one hundred dollars ($Soo.oo) has been donated to the Department of Education to l)e used in whatever way the Department thinks best. After due consideration the Department is of the opinion that this donation can render greatest service if utilized as a Loan Fund to students in Education, and it therefore respectfully requests that you present the same to the Pegents and
