GENTLMEN:The undersigned married instructors in the College
of Literature, Science, and the Arts of the University beg
leave to present for your consideration the following statement in regard to living conditions in Ann Arbor.
I. The following table shows the distribution of
salaries, so far as information is available, among the fortythree married instructors now teaching in the Literary College:

Ann Arbor, as given below, shows

the cost of living in
that in I916 a family

of two, exercising the strictest economy, could not maintain a reasonable standard of living on less than $I,I96.50
a year, a family of three on less than $I,353.00 a year, and a
family of four on less than $1,448.00 a year.
