Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

770 MAY MEETING, 19I7 tion of musical instruments, in accordance with a request from Professor Stanley. The following communication was received and placed on file: PRESIDENT H. B. HUTCHINS, ANN ARBOR, MICH. DEAR SIR:As the Seventh and Eighth Divisions of the Michigan Naval Militia leave Ann Arbor for further training prior to service afloat, we wish to express to you the sincere appreciation of the officers and men for the assistance and encouragement so freely given them by you and by the Regents, the Faculty, and other members of the University. This support largely contributed to the organization of the Divisions and has been of inestimable value in their training and development. We hope and believe that the confidence which it implies has not been misplaced. Among those to whom we are under obligations we desire to acknowledge especial indebtedness to Dr. G. A. May, Director of the Waterman Gymnasium, whose constant cooperation and assistance has been invaluable to us; to the College of Dental Surgery for the examination and treatment of the men of both divisions; to the Faculty of the Engineering College for the daily instruction of the members of the Engineering Division; and to the University Health Service for many courtesies. May we not express our thanks for their efforts in our behalf. Very truly yours, 0. M. McNEIr, J. R. HAYDEN Commanding Officers, 7th & 8th Divisions Ann Arbor, Mich., May 23, 1917 On motion of Regent Gore, the Board referred to the Regent's Committee on Military Affairs correspondence from Professor Clarence T. Johnston with respect to securing an army officer, presumably a Canadian, who had seen service on the Western front in the European war, to give military instruction at Camp Davis the coming summer.
