Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

754 APRIL MTEETING, 1917 A request was received through Dean Kraus for the introduction of instructions in home economics into the Summer Session of I9I7 as an emergency measure during the present national crisis, with an appropriation of $850 to meet the expenses thereof. On motion of Regent Hanchett, this request was referred to the Budget Committee. Professor Markley as Secretary of the Senate Council requested the approval of the Regents for the following resolution, which approval on motion of Regent Hubbard was voted: Resolved, That the Senate Council requests the Board of Regents to permit the Deans of the different Schools and Colleges to excuse from attendance on Commencement exercises such students as in the opinion of the Deans have an adequate reason for not being present. On motion of Regent Hanchett, certificates of graduation from the Homceopathic Medical Training School for Nurses were voted to Miss Henrietta Francois Hymans and MAiss Fern Lucile Keillor, as recommended by the Faculty of the Homeopathic Medical School. A communication was received from Director Campbell of the Chemical Laboratory asking whether the Regents would approve the suggestion, which Professor Campbell regarded as entirely practicable, for the Chemical Laboratory to undertake to make analyses of materials used in munitions and to do other similar work for the government. This work would presumably be under the direct charge of Assistant Professor Hobart H. Willard and such other members of the laboratory staff as might wish to volunteer, and might include the furnishing of quarters for chemists selected and detailed by the government. On motion of Regent Beal, the Board approved the suggestion of Professor Campbell if it should be found that the University's fire insurance would not be affected thereby. On motion of Regent Sawyer, the sum of $50 was added to the current expense fund of the Department of Dermatology. On motion of Regent Beal, following the recommendation of the Faculty of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, degrees and diplomas were voted as follows:
