Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

JANUARY MEETING
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN,
ANN ARBOR, JANUARY 19, 1917. }
The Board met in the Regents' Room at 10 o'clock A. M.
Present, the President, Regent Leland, Regent Beal, Regent
Sawyer, Regent Hubbard, Regent Clements, and Regent
Bulkley. Absent, Regent Gore, Regent Hanchett, and Superintendent Keeler.
The minutes of the meeting of December 22, I916
were approved as submitted to the Board in proof, with
minor changes on pages 626, 631, 635, 640, and 651.
The Secretary filed a letter from Professor Clarence T.
Johnston explaining that it was not possible, for lack of
extra copies, to comply with the request of the Regents (see
page 631) to deposit copies of the report of the Camp Davis
session of I916 in the General Library and in the Engineering Library, but as opportunity permitted from time to time
two additional copies would be prepared and one filed in
each of these libraries.
The President reported informally in the matter of professional practice by members of the staff of the Chemical
Laboratory, that Dean Cooley and Director Campbell to
whom the question had been referred at the December
meeting (see page 625) had arrived at a mutually satisfactory understanding and that no further questions of
this sort were likely to arise.
Regent Clements reported informally that the matter
of supplying the Roentgenology Department with ample and
suitable electric current was in process of adjustment (see
page 596).
Regent Hubbard reported that in order to provide for
the requirements of surveying and architecture a building
costing not less than $150,000 would be needed. A long
discussion ensued in which it became evident that the abovementioned sum would not adequately meet all the pressing
needs of the Colleges of Engineering and Architecture.
