Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

OCTOBER MEETING

ANN ARBOR, October I2 and I3, 1916.
The Board met in the Regents' Room at 2:30 P. M., October 12, as arranged by correspondence between the President and the Board members after adjournment was taken
to October 13 at the meeting of July 19.
Present, the President, Regent Beal, Regent Hubbard,
Regent Clements, Regent Bulkley, and Regent Leland. Absent, Regent Sawyer, Regent Hanchett, Regent Gore, and
Superintendent Keeler.
The minutes of the meeting of July 19 were approved on
motion of Regent Hubbard, after certain changes in typography and in phraseology.
Regent Beal and Regent Clements reported the refusal of
the University tenders for the two pieces of property for
which offers were authorized at the April meeting (see page
401).
The matter of providing in the Natural Science Building
new quarters for the Department of Architecture was erased
from the program (see pages 447 and 471).
On motion of Regent Bulkley, the Board gave permission
to Mr. E. S. George to assign his lease of certain University
property in Detroit, to Mr. S. D. Walden, on the express
condition that no release be given to Mr. George from the
obligations assumed by him under the original lease.
On motion of Regent Clements, the sum of $2,250 was
set aside from the general fund for the expense of carrying
heating and lighting connections to the Newberry Residence
(see page 492).
Regent Beal reported that in view of the work already
done by Olmsted Brothers he recommended that their bill
of $750 should be paid (see page 495). This report was
approved.
On motion of Regent Bulkley, the sum of $89.65 was
added to the Electrical Engineering salaries account to cover
the cost of carrying Corporal David Kummer upon the pay
