Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

JUNE MEETING, 1916 451 and a refund was denied on the showing made by two other students. The Board, on motion of Regent Beal, adopted the following resolution:Resolved, That hereafter any student desiring to obtain a refund of his Outdoor Physical Education fee must apply for such refund within sixty days of his actual payment of the fee. On motion of Regent Clements, the Board declined for the present to make an allowance for traveling expenses for a proposed trip of Librarian Bishop and Professor Shepard (see page 446). On motion of Regent Clements, the Board declined, in view of the action taken with respect to the use of the President's house upon the Campus (see page 446), to consider the use of this building as quarters for the Department of Architecture. Regent Clements reported that it was not possible to provide satisfactory fire protection for the Surveying building and on his motion this question was erased from the program (see page 446). Regent Clements reported upon plans, specifications, and bids for the new Library building, and on his motion the Board adopted the following resolutions:Resolved, That subject to the approval of plans and specifications and of methods of procedure for construction by the Regents Committees on the Library and on Buildings and Grounds, the University officials be and are hereby authorized and directed to execute a contract for the construction of the new Library building in an amount not in excess of $350,000. Resolved, Further, that during the construction of this building further appropriations shall be made from the Accumulation of Savings Fund to provide for the equipment of the building and for the architect's fees. On motion of Regent Beal, the Buildings and Grounds Committee was given authority to settle the question of veneering with tapestry brick the present Library stack and with regard to the use of granite in place of Bedford limestone in the water table of the new Library building.
