- Completed in 1908, Haydarpaşa station was built as a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II to Sultan Abdülhamit II, thus both the architectural design and the interior are very European. The station served as the starting point for the Baghdad railway, and would have been the midway point for the Berlin-Baghdad railway which remained unfinished at the end of WWI.
