- Narrative
- Completed in 1993, the Conkbayırı Mehmetçik Monument sits atop Hisarlık hill. This monument is built in memory of the unknown soldiers who died during the course of the battles with the British and the French in 1915. Constructed of five stone blocks, the monument is meant to represent the shape of hands clasped for prayer (www.akman.de/canakkale). It provides a focal point for Tarihi Milli Park, which actually covers the entire site of the 1915 battle for the Dardanelles.
