A book of this type represents the cumulative and collaborative work of numerous members of the POD community whose work it reflects and documents. We received thirty-six manuscripts, all worthy of dissemination. Due to space limitations however, we had to make difficult choices in selecting twenty-one for publication in this book. We did this by distributing each manuscript for review by peers across the faculty development community. One hundred reviewers participated in the review process, thereby providing each manuscript with between five and six reviews. Most of these volunteer reviewers had prior experience, but we were also able to include a number of new reviewers in the process. The reviews were, for the most part, timely, thorough, and thoughtful, and they yielded constructive feedback for revision or resubmission. Without doubt, the peer review process for To Improve the Academy, Vol. 31 reflected the diversity of perspectives that is a characteristic and strength of the POD Network.

We acknowledge and thank all reviewers who provided one of the essential characteristics of academic scholarship, peer review, to the manuscripts submitted to this volume of To Improve the Academy: Karen Adsit, Roberta Ambrosino, Pamela Arrington, Kola Babarinde, David Babb, Dorothe Bach, Donna W. We acknowledge the continued support of the POD Publication Committee and Hoag Holmgren, the executive director of the POD Network. Working with Jossey-Bass’s publication staff has been a delight. Everyone we have listed here was responsive to our queries and supportive of our requests for clarification and assistance. Special thanks go to Amy Vaughan, Emad Ismail, and Chenzi Wang for their technological, logistical, and editorial support with this publication.

My associate editor, Laura Cruz, has made a seamless transition to the editorial team. This volume is truly a team effort as Laura and I have shared decision making, review, and editing tasks throughout the process.
