- Context
- The Fosdick house, part of the E. Michigan Avenue Historic District, is one of Saline's kit houses. Plans for the house were found in Mr. Fosdick's 1915 copy of Radford 's Artistic Homes (Radford,1915,148), although the structure pictured in the catalogue was not exactly this house. It is possible that the pictured plan was combined with another plan, or perhaps was from another edition. Mr. Fosdick grew up on the family farm in York Township, later to follow his brother, Earl, to the village of Saline. He became the village's first lamplighter, then joined Detroit Edison in 1909 where he retired in 1935 as director of the Saline office. The house was completed in time for the Fosdick's wedding, July 17,1918. The house remained in the family until the present owners bought it.
