About the construction

Description: Two and a half story, cross gabled, Queen Anne with free classic detailing. Round tower with witch's cap roof on front facade. Wrap around porch with round support columns mounted on low, fieldstone supports. Sleeping porch on upper north facade. Windows are one light over one. Small window in each of the three gable peaks. Porch has fieldstone foundation. Aluminum siding. Two story addition to rear. Two car garage at rear.
Date Of Construction: 1894
Architect/Builder: William Henry Barr, builder
Context: Built by William Henry Barr and his wife Maude. They moved into the only two finished rooms when they were married in 1896, and continued to finish the house. They lived in the house at least through 1958. William was the son of John Henry Barr and purchased the land from his father. He worked for his father on the farm, and in the cider/sorghum mill. William helped to design the plans for the Baptist Church at 201 S. Ann Arbor.
