About the construction

Description: Two story, gable front and wing, Folk Victorian style house. Partial width porch with round columns resting on formed concrete supports, and wood balustrade. Sawtooth wood trim along eavesline. Windows are one light over one. Kneehole windows over porch. Clapboard siding. Molded concrete block foundation.
Date Of Construction: 1869 ca.
Context: A.C. Clark owned a furniture store on Adrian from about 1869-1909. He sold it to George Schmid Jr. in 1909 "who will move back the old store building and change it over to a dwelling house". The Schmid family occupied this house over several generations 1909-1970. The Schmids' owned and operated the Schmid Market at 100 S. Ann Arbor until about 1956. The house appears on the 1872 Bird's Eye View of Saline. Porch changed between 1912 and 1921.
