A[nna] M. C. Barnes ALS to Montrose Ladies' Anti Slavery Asso[ciation], April 26, 1862
The change in the condition of the country has made the helping of fugitives to Canada needless - they are better off in the States where they are as safe as any where & where employ ment is more easily found but these poor creatures on the borders cry to us for help for clothing food & the means of education & we thank you for your kind donation very heartily on behalf of the Society. very truly yours A. M. C. Barnes Secretary
