in supporting the Standard and also the continuous aid that is freely given to sustain the Liberator and that without such aid neither of these papers could ever have been kept up, at once indicates that the same must apply to the F D paper. Frederick Douglas's friends have urged on him and with good cause that he should not allow funds raised by his personal exertions in other directions to be absorbed by his paper or get sunk in its respon= sibilites but that he should rather let it go down than sacrifice to its support what he makes outside the paper and which should be for the advantage of his family {The following text is written perpendicularly in the right margin of this page.} In saying the fugtives amply supplied first and the F Douglass paper afterwards I have stated what I regard as the prevailing sentiment among Irish contributors I believe however there are some in England who would reverse that order and say the F Douglass paper first and the fugitives second I should not be surprised if you would find
