- Photographs primarily of unidentified Brulé Lakota Indian men, women and children (both individual and group portraits; studio and outdoor) and other scenes from Rosebud Indian Reservation taken between 1889 and 1896. Contents include photographs of Rosebud Indian Agency buildings and homesteads, encampments, Rosebud Agency reservation police, Fourth of July-related celebrations and dances, cowboys, cattle branding, government beef issues, meat drying and hide tanning techniques, tombs, rock formations in the Badlands and Brulé Lakota men, women, children, chiefs and families wearing western and traditional clothing. Of particular note is group portrait of Brulé Lakota men preparing for "Journey to Eastern Cities." Photographs of prominent individuals include studio portraits of Crow Dog, Hollow Horn Bear and Two Strike. Majority of photographs supplied with captions.
