- Group portrait of 14 unidentified Southern Cheyenne Indian chiefs posing outdoors on horseback at Cheyenne and Arapaho Reservation, Oklahoma Territory, wearing traditional clothing including eagle feather bonnets trimmed with ermine skins, otter fur hair wraps, German silver armbands, dance bells, and bead embroidered leggings and moccasins. Several subjects hold objects including crooked lances and tobacco bags.
- Subjects purportedly members of Elk Warrior Society (also known as Crooked Lance, Elk Horn Scrapers, Hémo'eoxeso).
- Contemporary inscription on verso: El Reno, Oklahoma July 4, 1898.
