Notes
Group portrait of a large number of Lakota Indian men, women and children. Several individuals can be seen wearing hair feathers, eagle feather bonnets, feather headdresses, face paint, bone hairpipe breastplates, Navajo chief's blankets, and otter fur hair wraps, necklaces, and turban while holding various objects including tobacco bag, buffalo horn and stone head warclubs, and eagle wing fan. Identified individuals include interpreter George C. Crager (back row, eleventh from right) and No Neck (back row, tenth from right). Grandchildren of white American mountaineer John Young Nelson are listed as present but have not been positively identified (possibly back row, second from right and back row, seventh from left). Infant (back row, third from right) possibly one of the two infants rescued from site of Wounded Knee massacre (likely not Lost Bird, also known as Zintkala Nuni). Photograph likely taken in South Dakota.
