Group portrait of eight Crow Indian prisoners of war apprehended in November, 1887 following Crow War uprising led by Sword Bearer (also known as Wraps up his Tail and Cheez-tah-paezh) being guarded by six United States Army soldiers at Crow Indian Agency, Montana Territory. Crow prisoners wear mixtures of western and traditional clothing including buffalo fur coat, wool trade blankets, blanket leggings, moccasins, and pompadour hairstyles. Leg shackles visible on three seated prisoners.
Crow subjects (back row left to right): Crazy Head, Coups Well Known (son of Crazy Head), Deaf Bull (also known as Good Eye), Bank, Carries His Food; (front row left to right): Looks with his Ears, Rock, Big Hail Stone.
