- Full length studio portrait of Sitting Bear wearing predominantly traditional clothing including cloth headband, hair feathers, embroidered hide leggings, moccasins, and hide shirt decorated with embroidered shoulder and sleeve strips, ermine skin, and hair lock fringe while holding eagle wing fan and staff affixed with human scalp. Subject also wears necklace affixed with presidential peace medal. Photograph likely taken during visit to United States Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
- Non-contemporary inscription on verso: Son of the Star - Arikara Chief, Fort Berthold, North Dakota also known as Rushing Eagle.
