- Notes
- Studio group portrait of four Oto Indian chiefs and two white men (likely photographers William Lenny and William Sawyers) seated before illustrated background. The chiefs wear mixtures of western and traditional clothing including otter fur turbans, porcupine hair roaches, wool yarn head sash, hair feathers, various shell and bead necklaces, German silver armbands, woven beadwork garters, hide jacket, and bead embroidered frock coats. Three chiefs wear necklaces affixed with presidential peace medals. The two white men hold tobacco bag and pipe tomahawk respectively.
- Back row, left to right: William Faw Faw, Parthayne, Opanomnina, White Horse.
- William Faw Faw (seated far left) became the leader of a religious movement in the 1890s. The jacket worn by Faw Faw in this image bears cedar tree designs, an important symbol of the religion.
- Contemporary inscription on verso: Four Indian chiefs with two white men of Purcell.
- Title derived from image caption.
- "Opanomnina" variant personal names: Oper-Nom-Nina.
