Notes: Half length studio portrait of Kicking Bear (also known as Matho Wanahtaka) seated wearing mixture of western and traditional clothing including hair feather and bone hairpipe breastplate.; Subject associated with Ghost Dance movement and held as prisoner of war at Fort Sheridan following aftermath of Wounded Knee Massacre before being made to travel with Buffalo Bill's European tour.; Printed at bottom: Geo. E. Spencer Photographer U.S.A. Fort Sheridan Home Studio 7520 Ellis Ave. Chicago.; Printed on verso: Views of Camp Douglas Rifle Range, Including groups of all Range officers, Division and Department Teams of Army Competitions 1889=90. Group of the Hostile Sioux taken Prisoners at Pine Ridge and brought to Fort Sheridan, who afterward accompanied Buffalo Bill on his European tour. A complete set, Cabinet size, of the following: Kicking Bear, Short Bull, Bring the White, Brave, High Eagle, Lone Bull, Eagle Star, Know his Voice and Squaw Medicine Horse, Wounded with many Arrows, John Bruguier, Government Scout and Interpreter, Price, Per Set, $2.00.
