Contemporary inscription on verso: A friendly Indian, & a noble fellow. Was with us at the battle of "Wood Lake" was close beside me for some time We killed three Indians & captured two ponies.
Title derived from image caption.
"John Other Day" variant personal names: Anpetu Tokeca, Anpetu Tokeka, Anpetutokacha, Beautiful Voice, Hotonho Waste.
"Santee Indians" variant names: Eastern Dakota Indians, Flandreau Indians, Isanti, Santee Sioux Indians.
