- Group portrait of Native American chiefs from Dakota Territory. The chiefs wear mixtures of western and traditional clothing including otter fur turban, otter fur hair wraps, hair feathers, grizzly bear claw necklace, hide shirt with porcupine quill decorated shoulder and sleeve strips, bone hairpipe breastplate, and blankets while holding eagle feather fans, gunstock war club and pipe tomahawk. Sitting Bear appears to be wearing necklace affixed with presidential peace medal. Two unidentified white American men (possibly interpreters) stand behind the chiefs. Photograph likely taken during visit to United States Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
