Printed on right-hand margin: From Whitney's Gallery, St. Paul.
Printed on verso: Tepees of the Sioux Indians. A Tepee may be called the Indian's traveling home. The frame is made by poles crossed at the top and spread at the bottom to the desired diameter. The covering is usually of cotton cloth, with Government Annuity Indians, but is sometimes of skins of animals, and always so with Indians of the plains. They are put up and taken down in a few moments, and are generally placed in some romantic situation on the shore of a lake or bank of a river. The Indians appear without notice, and "They fold their tents like the Arab, And as suddenly steal away." Published by Whitney's Gallery, 174 Third Street, St. Paul, Minn.
