25. Furthermore, there is evidence that at least one package of vaccine was transported beyond the Vaccination Act boundaries set by Secretary Cass. An Army major "escorted a physician and some cowpox vaccine as far as Fort Union" in 1832 (Robertson, p. 225; Trimble, 1992, p. 261). This was part of the federal inoculation program. This data point does run counter to Pearson's hypothesis of hostile relations.
