Nick Groom, in The Forger's Shadow: How Forgery Changed the Course of Literature, London: Picador, 2003, conducts an in-depth investigation into the nature of the fascination exercised by Chatterton over the Romantics and disputes, as Ackroyd did before him, his status as a suicide.
