A survey of the educational system of the Philippine islands by the Board of educational survey, created under acts 3162 and 3196 of the Philippine Legislature.

634 EDUCATIONAL SURVEY OF THE PHILIPPINES of the College of Medicine. Admission to the school is based upon graduation from an accredited high school or an equivalent education. The school offers a three-year course leading to the degree of doctor of dental surgery and a four-year course leading to the degree of doctor of dental medicine. Few students, however, take the fouryear course. Under the supervision of dentists from the staff of the Philippine General Hospital, dental clinics are held daily. The results of the examinations held by the Board of Dental Examiners show one remarkable fact, viz., that students who took the four-year course had a 100 per cent record of passing, whereas students who took the three-year course had a record of only 56.5 per cent. It is true that ten times as many graduates of the three-year course took the examinations as of the four-year course, and it may be that only the best students continue their studies for the fourth year. But that the additional year should produce such a remarkable improvement is altogether astonishing. Admission is based upon a high-school education or its equivalent. There is offered a three-year course leading to the degree of pharmaceutical chemist and a four-year course leading to the degree of bachelor of science in pharmacy. The School of Pharmacy is the one division of the University where women are enrolled in greater numbers than men. The explanation of this situation is that the vocation of pharmacist has largely been assumed by women throughout the Islands. The comparative results of the examinations held by the Philippine Board of Pharmaceutical Examiners and Inspectors as given
