A survey of the educational system of the Philippine islands by the Board of educational survey, created under acts 3162 and 3196 of the Philippine Legislature.

I I I UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES 633 school passed to the Board of Regents of the University and its name was changed to the College of Medicine and Surgery, since abbreviated to the College of Medicine. The history of the college is closely associated with that of the Philippine General Hospital where the services for the teaching of clinical medicine and surgery are found. The personnel and departments in the college and hospital are practically identical. All officers and teachers of the College of Medicine who have duties in connection with the hospital hold corresponding appointments in the hospital. All officers and employees of the hospital who have teaching functions hold corresponding appointments in the College of Medicine. The Dean of the School of Medicine is the Director of the Hospital. Thus the Philippine General Hospital and the College of Medicine are practically one institution. The connection between the two institutions is a most fortunate one and has meant much for the training of physicians in the Islands. The admission requirement for the college is the completion of two years' work in a pre-medical course of a college of liberal arts. The requirement for graduation is the completion of a five-year course, in the fifth year of which students are required to serve in rotation as internes in the major departments of the Philippine General Hospital. To the layman the equipment seems adequate, the instruction proper and the opportunity for observation and clinical practice at the hospital excellent. Certainly in the annual examinations held by the Board of Medical Examiners, the students of the College of Medicine have made a splendid record. The results as compared with the other institutions of the Philippines which prepare students for the examination are as follows: TABLE 114.-SHOWING THE TOTAL PERCENTAGE YEARLY OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES FROM DIFFERENT COLLEGES OF MEDICINE 1920 1921 1922 1923 1924 Names of colleges of S medicine 5 a Xrj ~4 P 0C4 Pk s 4 x 4 P 4 X4 X X4X P 4X University of the Philippines.......0.... 37 10 0 0 23 1000 30 100 3 19 86 0 11 100 University of Santo Tomas.......... 30 24 44 37 75 67 39 44 53 150 34 18 22 45 67 THE SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY.-In 1915 the Board of Regents authorized the establishment of a School of Dentistry to be a division
